هو محمد بن عبد الله بن عبد المطلب
خاتم النبيين والمرسلين واشرف الخلق اجمعين
ولد في مكة في شهر ربيع الأول من عام الفيل قبل ثلاث وخمسين سنة من الهجرة ما يوافق سنة 570 أو 571 ميلاديًا و52 ق هـ
ولد يتيم الأب وفقد أمه في سنّ مبكرة فتربى في كنف جده عبد المطلب ثم من بعده عمه أبي طالب حيث ترعرع،
وكان في تلك الفترة يعمل بالرعي ثم بالتجارة.
تزوج في سنِّ الخامسة والعشرين من خديجة بنت خويلد وأنجب منها كل أولاده باستثناء إبراهيم
كُلّف بالرسالة وهو ذو أربعين سنة، أمر بالدعوة سرًا لثلاث سنوات، قضى بعدهنّ عشر سنوات أُخَر في مكة مجاهرًا بدعوة أهلها وكل من يرد إليها من التجار والحجيج وغيرهم.
هاجر إلى المدينة المنورة والمسماة يثرب آنذاك عام 622م وهو في الثالثة والخمسين من عمره بعد أن تآمر عليه سادات قريش ممن عارضوا دعوته وسعوا إلى قتله،
فعاش فيها عشر سنين أُخر داعيًا إلى الإسلام، وأسس بها نواة الحضارة الإسلامية، التي توسعت لاحقًا وشملت مكة وكل المدن والقبائل العربية،

توفاه الله ضحى يوم الإثنين ربيع الأول سنة 11 هـ، الموافق 8 يونيو سنة 632م وقد تّم له 63 سنة

كان له من الأولاد ثلاثة بنين وأربع بنات، جميعهم من زوجته خديجة إلا إبراهيم فهو من مارية،
وكل أولاده ماتوا في حياته إلا فاطمة فإنها توفيت بعده.
وأولاده البنين هم: القاسم (وبه يُكنّى، توفي وعمره عامان) وعبد الله (الطّيّب الطاهر) وإبراهيم (عاش في المدينة سنة ونصف)،
وأما البنات فهنّ: زينب ورقية وأم كلثوم وفاطمة.
أما زينب فقد تزوجها ابن خالتها أبو العاص بن الربيع قبل الهجرة، وأما رقية وأم كلثوم فقد تزوجهما عثمان بن عفان الواحدة بعد الأخرى، وأما فاطمة فتزوجها علي بن أبي طالب بين بدر وأحد،
وليس في بناته من كانت لها ذرية إلا ما كان من ذرية فاطمة، فكان لها الحسن والحسين وزينب وأم كلثوم.

يُعرفن بأمهات المؤمنين، وقد اختُلف في عدد زوجات النبي اللاتي دَخَل بهنّ على قولين؛ أنهنّ إثنتا عشر أو إحدى عشر،
فالمتَّفق عليه من زوجاته إحدى عشرة. القرشيات منهنّ ست، هن: خديجة بنت خويلد، وسودة بنت زمعة، وعائشة بنت أبي بكر، وحفصة بنت عمر بن الخطاب، وأم سلمة، وأم حبيبة.والعربيات من غير قريش أربع، هن: زينب بنت جحش، وجويرية بنت الحارث، وزينب بنت خزيمة، وميمونة بنت الحارث. وواحدة من غير العرب وهي صفية بنت حيي من بني إسرائيل. وتبقى مارية القبطية وهي من مصر. وتوفِّيت اثنتان من زوجات النبي محمد حال حياته، وهما خديجة بنت خويلد وزينب بنت خزيمة، وتُوفي هو عن تسع نسوة
